James F. Van Natta

James F. Van Natta, M.D. is a U.C. Berkeley, St. George’s University School of Medicine, and University of Southern California trained board certified anesthesiologist. He served as Chairman of the Anesthesiology department at the Hilo Medical Center and also held a part-time faculty position at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Van Natta is a U.S. Army veteran having served three years during peacetime as a Russian Linguist Interrogator. He has had a life long interest in nature conservation and completed a Master of Science degree in Ecology as well as an Internship at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA.


Erwin Danzer, NP

Erwin Danzer

Nurse Practitioner Erwin Danzer was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended Hawaii Pacific University where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Nursing and Masters of Nursing (FNP) degree at the University of Hawaii where he graduated with honors. While at the University of Hawaii he was accepted into the Sigma Theta Tau academic honor society where he remains a member in good standing.

Nurse Practitioner Erwin Danzer served our country in the United States Air Force as a Commissioned Officer and Family Nurse Practitioner from 2011- 2013. After honorably separating from the military he worked in the ICU at North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas; managing patients with life threatening illnesses.

Nurse Practitioner Danzer always had an interest in Pain Management, helping patients who are in acute and chronic pain on a daily basis. He followed his passion for treating pain as a Pain Management Nurse Practitioner at one of Las Vegas’s elite pain management centers, Nevada Comprehensive Pain Center. He continued his studies with postgraduate education and training in advanced pain management. He received his certification for Chronic Opioid Prescription and Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies from the University Of Washington School Of Medicine. He is a member in good standing in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He continues to broaden his knowledge and skills through conferences and workshops.

Through his life experiences and travels his ambition was to return to Maui. Maui Pain Clinic provided Nurse Practitioner Danzer the opportunity to help the people of Maui. He is excited to be part of the team, and he and his wife are grateful to the people of Maui for welcoming them back home.

Renee Fabrizi, PA-C

Renee Fabrizi

Renee graduated Cum Laude from USC Keck School of Medicine, Los Angeles California in 2001. She graduated at the top of her class and was a member of the Pi Alpha Honors Society. Renee is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has been practicing in the specialty of Pain Management for over 18 years. She has vast experience in diagnosing and treating a multitude of pain issues and is highly trained in performing interventional procedures such as joint injections, trigger point injections and Botox injections for chronic migraine headaches and cervical dystonia.

Renee had always dreamed of living in Hawaii and in 2015 she and her husband Mike left Southern California and moved to the Big Island to join Dr. Frank Van Natta at Kaloko Pain Center in Kailua-Kona. Renee is a compassionate provider and believes in the overall well being of her patients. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, she is always striving to reduce her patient’s pain and restore their ability to function.

When not working, Renee enjoys being active in her community, spending time with her family, surfing, swimming, walking her dogs and enjoying the beautiful outdoor life style that Hawaii has to offer.


Heather N. Regan, DPT, C.S.C.S.


Heather Regan

Dr. Heather Regan is the clinic director at the Maui Clinic Physical Therapy. Born and raised a New Englander, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry at Worcester State University.  She went on to earn her doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!). Dr. Regan has experience in acute, sub-acute, and outpatient settings and has worked with patients of all ages and conditions. A life-long athlete, she naturally gravitated towards orthopedic sports medicine and also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the NSCA.  Her combination of training and educational background provide a unique and individualized experience for her patients.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, being active, travel, hiking, surfing and Polo.

Scott Smith

Scott comes to us with a wide range of medical expertise. After college he became an EMT in 94 the advanced to firefighter then paramedic A career ending injury sent him to PA school and now has decades of experience in emergency and orthopedic medicine. As a former professional athlete with countless injuries he is uniquely qualified and a perfect fit for interventional pain management. His ability to relate to his patients is his greatest gift
